Introducing ETH Zürich

Introducing Carbon4Minerals consortium member - ETH Zürich.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) was established in 1855 and has since become a nationally recognized educational institution of international significance, attracting talent from around the globe. The successful combination of cosmopolitanism and strong connections at the national level transformed the fledgling educational institution into one of the driving forces behind Swiss industrialisation.

In 2012, the Chair of Sustainable Construction was established at the Institute of Construction and Infrastructure Management. This Chair brings together a group of scientists, engineers and architects who aim to ground sustainability in all disciplines involved in the built environment. The objective is to identify the relevant parameters that influence the environmental impact of buildings at international, national and regional levels, and to implement sustainable practices throughout the development of innovative strategies adapted to each stakeholder. This interdisciplinary work addresses various topics, including Life Cycle Assessment, urban metabolism, and material science.

Role in the project

In the Carbon4Minerals project, ETH Zurich will evaluate the environmental and economic performance of the innovative construction products developed. This assessment will focus on their entire life cycle to quantify the potential carbon savings compared to conventional construction products. Moreover, the feasibility of adopting these products within the European construction value chain will be considered.
